President Donald Trump is not afraid to voice his opinion. In a recent post on Twitter, he announced that he has decided not to allow transgenders to serve in the military after speaking with generals and experts on the topic. This did not go unnoticed as many of Silicon Valley’s CEOs rushed to social media to voice their disapproval of Trump’s decision.
Although they may be in a different industry that has nothing to do with politics per se, the technology industry was quick to jump in disagreement of the President’s lack of approval of transgender individuals.
Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted on his social networking site that “everyone should be able to serve their country — no matter who they are.”
Similarly, the CEO of Twitter and Square, Jack Dorsey, tweeted “discrimination in any form is wrong for all of us,” and added the hashtag “#LetThemServe.”
The voices were countless though with the following individuals additionally commenting on the issue:
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google Inc., noted: “I am grateful to the transgender members of the military for their service. # LetThemServe.”
Marc Beniof, CEO of Salesforce wrote: #equalityforall
Brad Smith, Microsoft President and Chief Legal Officer also said: “We honor and respect all who serve, including the transgender members of our military. #LetThemServe”
President Trump’s reasoning behind the ban of transgender military members is that he claims “our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming…victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.” As a result of Trump’s recent actions, many political experts are questioning the lack of equality in his reasoning.
While you may or may not be a fan of Donald Trump, the recent ban of transgender military members has put him in an unfavorable place with leaders in the world of technology.
