Medallia Inc. and Smartsheet are among the companies that have been named to the Forbes 2017 Cloud 100 list.
This definitive list of the top 100 private cloud companies in the world was published by Forbes in collaboration with Bessemer Venture Partners. It aims to ‘recognize cloud companies for the financial health and growth of their business’.
Tonight, Bessemer Venture Partners and Forbes, along with Salesforce Ventures, will host The Cloud 100 Celebration, an exclusive event in San Francisco to celebrate the companies that made the list. CEOs of the public cloud companies, as well as the CEOs named to The Cloud 100 and The 20 Rising Stars lists, will attend the celebration.
Medallia CEO and co-founder Borge Hald said it is an honor to be recognized by Forbes as one of the top private cloud companies in the world. “Our vision is a world where companies are loved by customers and employees. Medallia Experience Cloud powers the world’s best-loved brands and enables companies to become more customer-centric and innovative,” Hald stated. “In a world where customer-obsessed companies disrupt everyone else, our customer experience platform is being demanded by enterprises across industry and geography at unprecedented levels.”
Smartsheet made the list for the second year in a row. The company’s CEO, Mark Mader, said, “We’re honored to be named to the Forbes Cloud 100 list for the second consecutive year, alongside some of the world’s most impactful tech companies. The cloud is evolving in new and exciting ways, and we have the privilege of enabling organizations around the world to realize the transformative impact of the cloud for managing and automating collaborative work. We look forward to extending our category leadership and providing next-gen cloud technologies that provide our customers a distinct competitive advantage.”
Regarding this year’s selections, Forbes editor of the Cloud 100 list Alex Konrad, said, “Our inaugural Cloud 100 list showed the tech and venture capital community just how many standout private cloud companies there are to watch, and this year’s list is no exception. Forbes has a keen eye for businesses, and combining that with Bessemer Venture Partners and Salesforce Ventures’ deep knowledge of the cloud industry, any company’s inclusion on the Forbes 2017 Cloud 100 list is cause to celebrate.”
The rigorous selection process for the Forbes 2017 Cloud 100 was based upon four factors: estimated valuation (30%), operating metrics (20%), people & culture (15%), and market leadership (35%). The judge panel, consisting of a majority of public cloud company CEOs, was responsible for weighing these factors to select, score, and rank the winners.
Byron Deeter, a top cloud investor and partner at Bessemer Venture Partners, applauded the selected companies for leading the cloud technology revolution. “The founders and teams behind the Forbes 2017 Cloud 100 companies are of another caliber and we are beyond excited to celebrate the hard work and enormous value these companies are creating as they propel the trillion-dollar software industry forward,” Deeter stated.
And John Somorjai, EVP Salesforce Ventures and Corporate Development, said, “The business opportunity for cloud computing is tremendous as the spend on cloud computing and the rate of adoption continues to grow and advance the ecosystem. We’re thrilled to highlight the potential of these top-tier private companies in the field and see where they take their businesses and the economies around the world.”
