Amazon is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to adding new product lines to its massive portfolio. However, people were in for quite a surprise when they saw a new wine brand named Next with Amazon.com featured on the back in June 2017. But after the press release which indicated Amazon was involved in the brewing, the e-commerce giant took a moment to clarify that the news was incorrect. This was after a blog post on Forbes titled “Amazon’s First Wine, Called NEXT, Makes Its Debut” spread like wildfire.
Initially, an Amazon spokesperson stated that this was the first time Amazon is selling wine developed with its hand in the concept and that it would be released under the name Amazon Wine. However, 11 hours after this revelation, Amazon clarified that the press release was totally incorrect and that the company had no involvement in the development of the wine. They further commented that the company was just a retail sales channel for the new brand of wine.
According to the original publication which was termed as “incorrect” by Amazon, it indicated a new wine label is in the market named Next and that its bottles ranged from $20 to $40 each. Further, the company stated that they are helping in the development process of the wine which is produced by King Vintners, a wholly owned subsidiary of Oregon based King Estate Winery.
Amazon also delivers alcohol in limited cities with a turnaround time of one hour, through a partnership with local shops. But thinking further, Amazon’s own wine line sounds like a great idea.
