Royal Caribbean is inviting fans to experience a one of-a-kind underwater adventure through the lens of Snapchat Spectacles. For five days – June 21 to June 25 – viewers will be able to immerse themselves in the ocean through the company’s Snapchat channel @RoyalCaribbean, while using a custom-designed scuba mask dubbed “SeaSeekers.” The mask, which was engineered by the cruise line for use with Snapchat Spectacles, will allow wearers to snap pictures while underwater and will give those who are not underwater a unique view of marine life.
Jim Berra, chief marketing officer and SVP of Marketing for Royal Caribbean International, praised Snapchat as the ideal platform for this first-of-its-kind undersea exploration and lauded SeaSeekers for providing adventurers a front-row seat to the thrilling experiences found underwater in a way that has never been possible before.
“We are excited to find an innovative way to use the Snapchat Spectacles with our SeaSeekers mask so that we can bring the underwater experience to our guests as they visit the incredible destinations we sail to,” Berra said. “We’ve even taken the added step of applying for a patent for the SeaSeekers mask so that we can bring it to our guests exclusively.”
Royal Caribbean, which has been voted “Best Cruise Line Overall” for 14 consecutive years in the Travel Weekly Readers Choice Awards, will feature three dives in its Snapchat experience. The dives will be seen through the eyes of marine wildlife photographer and conservationist Roberto Ochoa, marine biologist and co-founder of Oceanus, A.C. Gabriela Nava, and free diver Ashleigh Baird. Ochoa will offer viewers a rare glimpse into the annual migration of whale sharks in Cozumel, Mexico. Nava will then taken viewers to a coral reef restoration project that she and her team have been working on. And then Baird will invite viewers to join her on a visit to the Great Blue Hole, a giant submarine sinkhole off the coast of Belize.
