Machine language, or what we call Artificial Intelligence, has taken on a new dimension. With the likes of Cortana (Microsoft), Siri (Apple), Google Assistant (Google), and Alexa (Amazon) having established their credentials, Facebook is not going to stay behind.
The social network is developing a machine that will not only take instructions from the user, but will even understand behavioral patterns like humans do and converse (and negotiate) more effectively. The initiative by Facebook indicates a step towards bots with a human touch.
The engineers and researchers at Facebook have trained bots by feeding examples of actual negotiations that are conducted by human beings, including both business negotiations and simple, everyday conversations to convince a friend of family member. The researchers, who call themselves FAIR (Facebook Artificial Intelligence Researchers) have a distinct approach to attain this goal, which is to make these bots talk like humans, anticipate what humans will do, and react accordingly.
Facebook scientists say these bots are learning about smart movements, referred to as “intelligence maneuvers.” What they have seen in these machines is tremendous amount of patience and determination which works to their advantage.
The idea behind this concept is to leverage AI technology to complete simple tasks like setting up reminders, booking appointments, and functioning like an intelligent virtual assistant. Take it one step further, the FAIR team says they think these bots may soon use chat bots for more complex but daily functions like customer support and customer facing functions that uses constant interaction just like humans who do a lot of negotiation.
Facebook has opened the source code, inviting bot developers to come and participate in this initiative. A research paper published by the social media giant said they are expecting this innovation to lead to greater and more meaningful conversation with intellectual negotiations and usage of exceptional sentences.
Even though the journey is a long one, with the ultimate goal to have a do-it-all bot that takes care of essential conversations and tasks, Facebook rolled out a limited version of this humanized bot innovation. Only time will tell of the success of AI technology in this regard, but until then we can continue to be amazed by this innovation.
