The invention of a recent app, in which budding Pokémon trainers can search for and capture creatures in real time, has caused a furore in the workplace.
Whilst the Pokémon Go app has brought joy to millions of anime fans all over the world, it’s also been causing havoc for HR teams everywhere.
The urge to ‘catch them all’ was proving too strong for workers in one unidentified office in America this week – so much so that an angry boss left a note to his staff, warning them of the consequences of playing the game at work.
The note read: “We are paying you to work, not chase fictional video game characters with your cell phone all day.
“Save it for break time or for lunch. Otherwise you’ll have plenty of time unemployed to ‘Catch them all.’”
The app has also been at the centre of another workplace incident involving Sonny Truyen, an SEO specialist working for 99.co – a real estate portal in Australia.
Tryen expressed his dismay that he couldn’t catch any Pokémon in Singapore, compared to his recent home of Australia, and took to Facebook to rant. His post caused offense to many Singaporeans, so much so that they contacted 99.co to complain about their employee.
Truyen was later fired from his role.
