The first pictures of Google’s new office in King’s Cross, London, have emerged – the Evening Standard reports. The office features £17,000 sofas, sleep pods for napping in the workplace and a running track.
It was designed by Stirling Prize-winning architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, with black steel and oak staircases designed “to encourage chance encounters between colleagues for collaborative chats.”
All food and drink is complimentary, but if anyone frequently overindulges and puts on the ‘Google stone’ – the weight put on by staff due to the free food – there’s also a gym encircled by a 90-metre running track available. Employees can also have a massage afterwards.
Sleepy staff have also been catered for – the £5,500 sleep pods, by Metronap, have been dubbed the “world’s first chair designed for napping in the workplace.”
Speaking about the new place of work, Andy Martin, a Project Executive at the technology firm, says: “[Coding is] properly intense brain activity. The business wants people to enjoy their work and be looked after as well.”
