It seems Qualcomm can’t get a break. The mobile technology company’s legal battle with the Federal Trade Commission is set to move forward.
Qualcomm filed a motion to dismiss an antitrust lawsuit filed by the Federal Trade Commission that was ruled against by a U.S. federal judge on Monday. The allegations against the telecom provider is that they manipulated the industry through its power and position to extract heavy royalties and commissions from phone manufacturers and weaken the rivals.
The ruling by the court is a clear indication that the case will move forward. This adds to the legal turmoil for company, as it is already in a legal dispute with Apple over an $850 million fine from South Korean competition regulators and a fine of $1 billion in China.
Speaking about this development, Don Rosenberg, General Counsel at Qualcomm said they will continue to fight this legal battle. They are looking forward to the proceedings and are quite sure the claims made by the FTC are baseless and without any weight. Rosenberg said the FTC will have a huge burden to prove their wrongful claim.
However, no representative from the FTC was available for comment.
