Following a successful pilot project in Munich, design hotel chain Motel One is extending its refugee integration project to Berlin.
In March, five refugees from Syria and Afghanistan aged between 24 and 28 began a pre-apprenticeship work placement at five of the hotel franchises in Berlin.
The placements last six months and upon completion, there is an option to continue learning through a two-year hospitality apprenticeship.
During the training, each refugee will be paired up with a Motel One employee who will act as their personal mentor and will take part in internal workshops and training to strengthen intercultural skills.
To help close any language barriers, the interns will also receive additional assistance with state subsidised language courses, supported by employment agency floor5 consulting.
The aim of the project is to support the integration of refugees by helping them enter the job market and to enable them to embark on a career at Motel One.
Motel One’s Head of Human Resources, Kerstin Winkelmann, told us: “At Motel One, we know our staff are our most important asset. Giving five refugees a chance to learn and develop a career with the brand is something we felt very strongly about.”
“We are delighted to be extending our integration project to Berlin, following a successful launch in Munich, and hope to be able to strengthen our team with fresh international talent,” comments Daniel Müller, COO at Motel One. “We are also taking our social and community responsibility very seriously.”
